The local elections will take place on 8 March 2026. Anyone who is eligible to vote can vote in the polling station or apply for a postal vote.
Course description
You can apply for postal voting documents in various ways. Please decide which method you prefer. You cannot apply by telephone!
Postal voting documents may be sent out at the earliest three weeks before the election date (from Monday, 16 February 2026). This applies regardless of when you submit the application.
Please note: If the postal voting documents are to be sent to a different address, please enter this address in addition to your home address.
- Apply online You can apply for postal voting documents online in good time before the election. This is possible from Monday, 26 January to Monday, 2 March 2026, 11 am. After this time, it can no longer be guaranteed that the postal voting documents will arrive by post in time for the election.
- Apply by post
If you would like to request the postal voting documents by post, please use the back of the election notification. Send the request in good time. This will give you enough time to send it back. Alternatively, you can also use the application form and please contact us by Monday, 2 March 2026 at the latest if you would like to receive the postal voting documents by post. If we receive your application later, we cannot guarantee that you will receive the documents on time.

Pick up in person You can pick up your postal voting documents in person from Monday, 16 February 2026. You can do this at the district administration department and at the district inspectorates. The addresses can be found on your election notification. Collection is possible until Friday, 6 March, 3 pm. You can vote directly on site, fill in the postal voting documents and hand them in.

Applying for postal voting documents by proxy If you would like to collect or apply for postal voting documents by proxy on behalf of another person, there are a few things to bear in mind.
If you apply for a postal vote: Take care of your polling card! You will not get a replacement if you lose it.
Questions & Answers
You can vote by post even if you are abroad. We will send the postal voting documents to your place of residence. Please enter the address where you are in addition to your main place of residence in Munich.
Please note: Mailing times abroad are often longer. This also applies to postage from abroad.
Remember when you apply for postal voting documents: You bear the risk of sending them abroad!
if you have requested postal voting documents but have not received them after eight days, please contact the electoral office as soon as possible. Please note that postal voting documents may only be sent out from Monday 16 February.
If you would like to receive the postal voting documents by post, please contact us by Monday, 2 March 2026 at the latest. If we receive your request later, we cannot guarantee that you will receive the documents on time.
You can collect your postal voting documents from the district administration office and the other postal voting distribution points until Friday, 6 March 2026, 3 pm.
If you want to change the polling station, you must apply for a polling card with postal voting documents.
You can use the polling card to go to any polling station in your district.
Please note: You cannot hand in the postal voting documents in our polling stations on election day! However, you can vote in the polling station with your polling card if you have a valid ID with you.
the completed postal voting documents must be received by the electoral office by 6 p.m. on election Sunday, 8 March 2026 at the latest.
Use the official letterboxes and special drop-off points on the election weekend. You can post your election letters there until 6 p.m. on Sunday, 8 March 2026.
Please note: You cannot hand in postal voting documents in our polling stations. However, you can vote in the polling station with your ballot paper, provided you have a valid form of ID (passport or identity card) with you.
